Des Moines Cloth Diapering Garage Sale Rules:
I will be accepting donations for Miracle Diapers. Anything that doesn't sell, or that you simply wish to donate, will be sent for distribution to poor families. Diapers in need of repair are fine. Cash is good, too.
I often get asked if it's OK to bring non-diapering products. That's FINE, but I want to make sure the majority of items are cloth diapers. If you have one or two outfits, slings, nursing shirts, or other baby- or child-related items, please feel free to bring them. If you have a box of non diapering related items, please leave it at home. If you have diaper making supplies you're no longer using (and are selling at garage sale prices), that's fine, too.
LEGAL TERMS:
The CPSIA legislation is affecting everything related to merchandise for children, even secondhand merchandise. Recent guidance from the CPSC intended for secondhand stores I think gives us a good set of rules for our own sale. Items do not have to be tested for lead, but sellers are still liable for the lead content of their items. Please do not bring items you think might contain lead in excess of 600 ppm. How will you konw that? Use your best judgement. Cloth diapers are not likely to contain lead.
Because the law is more stringent for surface coatings and painted surfaces, please do NOT bring to the sale anything that has a surface coating. This would include painted zippers (as in a wet bag), or painted designs on diapers or covers.
